How Can chronic Cough Along With Chest Pain Be Treated?

I have constant coughing and an extreme amount of mucus. The cough doesn t go away. It gets to the point I cough non stop and start gagging, my chest and back hurt from coughing, I have severe shortness of breath and wheezing. I have been treated for chronic bronchitis several times. As, they think that is what it might be. They put me on prednisone (sp), breathing treatment, steroid shot and singular. It does help tremendously and it practically goes away. But within 3-4 months I start getting all stuffed up again and the coughing and mucus come back. Is there a possibility it could be something else. Thyroid, TB, celiac (sp)

Hello,

The bronchitis can be labeled as chronic when cough persist for 3 month for two consecutive year. So, if duration is short then acute bronchitis can be a possibility. The irritation to respiratory tract like smoking can be possible.

You have to investigate further with sputum examination and chest X- ray to exclude possibility of tuberculosis. You have to rule out diabetes as well.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
